                      FAQ's

                      • When should I order my cake?  As a general rule, I suggest you book two to six months in advance for a wedding cake and one month for a celebration cake, but I can often accommodate last minute orders.  Call to schedule an appointment.

                      • Can you accommodate food allergies and dietary restrictions?  While many of our cakes do not contain nuts, they are prepared in a kitchen where nuts have been used.  If you have a severe nut allergy I cannot guarantee that your cake will not have traces of nuts in it.

                      • Do you ship your cakes?  No.  Since your cake cannot be guaranteed to arrive in one piece, our cakes are not available to be shipped.

                      • Do you offer tasting?  Yes.  You may schedule a tasting with me when you call to book your wedding consultation.  There will be various cakes and filling options to mix and match.  Tasting are complementary for cakes with over 100 servings.  If you require a tasting for a smaller cake you are welcome to order a sampler for $30.00.  Should you need to cancel your tasting for any reason, I ask for 48 hours notice.  If you fail to give notice you will be charged $30.00 for your missed appointment.  I will hold your date until your tasting, but after that your date will be considered open until I receive your retainer.

                      • How much can I expect to pay for my cake?  Our cakes generally range in price from $2.00 - $5.00 per serving depending on content and decoration with a $100.00 minimum order for a wedding cake.  Each of my cakes is an individual work of art and I will work with you and your budget to create an unforgettable centerpiece for your occasion.

                      • What about mini cakes?  Mini versions of beautiful cakes are a wonderful addition to any occasion.  They are a little present for each of your guests.  As beautiful as they are, they are a labor intensive undertaking to create.  Rather than one large cake, I have to assemble and decorate multiple little cakes with decorations that are much smaller and more tedious to create than their larger counterparts.  Due to all of the extra labor involved mini cakes start at $20.00 per cake with a minimum order of 10 cakes.

                      • Do you deliver?  Yes.  The delivery fee is $2.00 per mile one way with a $25.00 minimum fee.  Delivery is free if your event is held in the city of Columbus.  Set up does not include table draping or decorations.  I do offer to stay for the cutting and serving of your cake for a cake cutting fee or offer detailed instructions for cutting and serving are provided to assure proper serving size.

                      • Why am I being charged a cake cutting fee by my venue? Cake cutting fees can come as a shock to the unsuspecting couple, but they are a part of the business.  Every venue is charging you a fee to cut and serve your cake, most just don't spell it out for you in black and white.  The fee is to cover the cost for the wait-staff to cut and serve your cake and for the dish washing staff to clean up the plates and forks.  Some venues will highlight the cake cutting fee so that you will ask about it and they can then recommend their in house baker and "waive" the cake cutting fee.  In reality they aren't waiving the fee, but they are making the extra money on the cake so the extra fee is built into the profit from your cake.  While it can come as a shock, usually the fee is minimal in comparison to the rest of the fees for your venue.  It is a good idea to ask upfront if the fee will be "added" to your bill, but understand that every venue is being compensated for the cutting and serving of a wedding cake regardless of if they spell it out for you or not.

                      • Do you provide fresh flowers to decorate my cake?  No.  Any flowers that you want placed on your cake will need to be ordered from your florist and delivered to your event location.  It is a good idea to inquire with your florist about the flowers you are using on your cake.  Most flowers are grown with pesticides and many varieties of flowers are actually toxic to humans (the calla lily and hydrangea are great examples of beautiful, yet toxic flowers) and many people are allergic to flowers as well.  It is a good idea to, at the very least, have organically grown flowers when you are placing them on or around your cake.  I will ask for a contact number for your florist so I may speak with them about the flowers for your cake to assure that proper sizes are ordered.  The best option would be to have your flowers created from edible gumpaste to assure that there will be no ill effects from your cake's decor.

                      • What is your payment policy?  If your order is under $200.00, full payment is due upon ordering.  For orders over $200.00, I require a retainer of $200.00 to secure your date.  The remainder of your payment is due four weeks before your event date.  If you book your cake with less than four weeks to spare, full payment in cash is due upon ordering regardless of the price.  I accept cash and checks.  There is a $35.00 return check fee for all returned items.

                      • What happens if I have to reschedule my event?  If you must change your event date I will try our best to accommodate you but I cannot guarantee I will have your new date open.  Our cancellation policy is outlined in our client contract and will be explained to you at your booking.

                      • Isn’t it cheaper to get a fake display cake and serve sheet cakes?  No.  Styrofoam “dummy cakes” cost just as much as the raw ingredients for a baked cake.  The bulk of the cost of your cake is in the decorating and that costs the same no matter what it is on.  Then you will be paying for the kitchen cakes which cost about the same amount as a tiered wedding cake.  You will end up paying more for a display cake and kitchen cakes than you would if you ordered the appropriate servings of wedding cake.

                      • Doesn’t fondant taste terrible?  All fondants are not created equally.  There are brands out there that do taste horrible, but I make our fondant using marshmallows and sugar or order Choco-Pan (the ultra-premium alternative to traditional rolled fondant. Choco-Pan is made with high quality white chocolate, offers a superior taste and texture) most find these to be very appetizing.  Fondant allows for a wonderfully smooth canvas in which to bring your cake to life and you are welcome to sample some if you would like.

                      • Can I have more than one cake flavor in our cake or does it have to all be the same?  Please feel free to choose any cake and filling combination you desire.  I do not limit you to one flavor for your whole cake.  If you have multiple flavors in your cake, you may want to order more servings since your guests may be inclined to sample more than one flavor.
